UrbanGlass Internships
UrbanGlass offers internships in the areas of Education, Development, and Journalism and accept applications on a rolling basis.
Education Intern
The Education intern at UrbanGlass will assist in the general operation of the education department. The main duties of the intern are administrative, assisting in the organization of materials, management of general supplies, preparation for upcoming workshops, distribution of printed matter, and aiding the Education Coordinator in current projects. In appreciation of their service, each intern will receive a tuition waiver for one workshop of their choice during the semester of their service. There will be up to 3 education interns for each semester.
Spring semester will be from Mar 1- June 30th
Summer semester will be from July 1 - Aug 31st
Fall semester will be from Sept 1- Dec 31st
Winter semester will be from Jan 1- Feb 28th
Interns must be available for the entire semester, and work at least one day per week. Internship time and length can be adjusted to accommodate university/institutional requirements for credit.
Primary responsibilities:
- Spread flyers and social media updates
- Data entry
- Education materials inventory
- Prep work for workshops (forms, handouts, syllabi, class rosters, materials etc.)
- Pack work after workshops and private lessons
- Assist in research
- Fill in for receptionist and store manager
- Help with youth programming
- Assist with Education events

Development Intern
The Development Intern assists UrbanGlass' fundraising team in generating contributed income for the organization. Interns should be college or graduate students who are motivated and organized, and must be able to commit to eight hours a week for six weeks. Responsibilities include:
- Assist with donor and foundation research
- Data entry into donor database
- Assist in event preparation for annual auction benefit, open studios, exhibition openings
- Provide administrative support for Development Officer
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and interest in fundraising, arts administration, and visual arts
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- Professional demeanor when communicating with media, artists, and other contacts via phone and email
- Comfort working with databases and basic Window’s programs; Adobe Photoshop and InDesign are a plus!
- Candidates must be responsible and self-directed.

Journalism: Glass: The UrbanGlass Art Quarterly
Glossy art magazine published by nonprofit center in the heart of downtown Brooklyn’s arts district seeks a motivated editorial intern for two days a week in the office. Since 1979, GLASS: The UrbanGlass Art Quarterly has been the magazine of record for sculpture, design, and installations in the material of glass, and we continue to build on our legacy of serious critical discourse.
The internship is equal parts administrative support for the managing editor and the opportunity to write articles (both for our frequently updated blog as well as print publication). We are looking for a promising arts journalist with an interest in developing his or her critical voice as well as building a portfolio of published clips. Our offices are in a nonprofit art center with a working glass studio, an art gallery, and thriving education program.
While the position offers opportunities to interview and write about prominent artists, and to work with the editor of the magazine, there are also more mundane aspects such as occasional runs to the post office or making entries in our subscriber database. As a smaller magazine, we offer the opportunity to learn about all aspects of magazine publishing. We are dedicated to developing our interns’ academic and professional careers and are happy to work with your university if you are seeking academic credit. Our past interns have ranged from full-time students to those holding graduate degrees in art history and journalism. We continue to support our interns with letters of recommendations and continued writing opportunities.
